Cypress
timber is environmentally a wise choice as it is naturally occurring, renewable, re-usable, and biodegradable.
The Roma Cypress Mill is situated close to the Warrego Highway and approximately 5 minutes from the Roma CBD.  The Mill began operations in 1975 with Fleming Cypress Pty Ltd purchasing it in 1987. Cypress Supplies purchased the Mill in 2008.

There are approximately 20 mill-hands plus the manager and office staff employed at the Mill and about  8000 cubic meters of sawn timber is processed every year.

The cypress logs
are cut and hauled from managed native forests approximately 200 k’s from Roma Qld.
The appearance of cypress can range in colour from dark chocolate through to pale fawns with the sapwood a pale yellow. Cypress is easily distinguishable with its feature of black or dark coloured knot holes contrasting with the heartwood and sapwood. It also has a distinctive smell which is quite noticeable when the timber is freshly installed or sanded. Cypress is much sought after for its remarkable resistance to decay and termite resistance and this combined with its uniform and low shrinkage provides exceptional stability in all aspects of building.

A Little bit of History
‘Jinchilla’ is the aboriginal word for the local western cypress pine and many believe that the town of Chinchilla built in the midst of the cypress forests was named for it.  The timber was renamed ‘cypress’ because Europeans believed the cut timber looked like the Northern Hemisphere conifer ‘Cypress’. The cypress timber properties relate more closely with those of a hardwood than a conifer and  It is extremely hardy, surviving poor soil conditions and low rainfall. The tree only grows to a medium size which reflects the conditions in which it grows. Cypress timber– a great Australian
